Larry Langdon, Founder of Sentient Light and inventor of the Sentient Element PEMF therapy machine

Larry Langdon is the founder of Sentient Light and the inventor of the Sentient Element, a clinic-grade pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy system used by chiropractors, physiotherapists, and wellness clinics across the United States. He brings 30+ years of electrical and embedded engineering experience, including work at Boeing, National Semiconductor, Intel, Microsoft, and classified programs, along with contributions to early FDA-cleared cardiac and life-support technologies.

Engineering background

Larry holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and has spent more than three decades designing hardware, software, embedded systems, instrumentation, and product testing platforms. His professional work spans aerospace, semiconductor, and medical device industries, including projects at Boeing, National Semiconductor, Intel, and Microsoft. He has also contributed to classified engineering programs requiring high-level security clearance.

Among the medical technologies Larry contributed to during his career was one of the first FDA-cleared defibrillator designs, giving him direct experience with the engineering discipline, safety standards, and validation processes required for clinical-use electronic devices. This medical-device engineering foundation later informed the design philosophy behind the Sentient Element PEMF system.

Path into PEMF therapy

Larry's interest in pulsed electromagnetic field technology began after a tick bite during a hike in the Cascade foothills east of Seattle in 2000 led to persistent health challenges. After conventional approaches offered limited improvement, he explored emerging areas of nutrition science and non-invasive, energy-based wellness technologies.

At a small invitation-only seminar on food science, nutrition, and energy medicine, Larry was introduced to PEMF technology. Observing a multi-frequency demonstration, he saw clear physiological responses and recognized the engineering opportunity to build a system with greater precision, repeatability, and modern control. Drawing on his electrical engineering training and decades of hardware and software experience, he began designing and testing his own electromagnetic coil systems.

Early prototypes were inspired by experimental coil architectures, including designs commonly referred to as Doug Coil–style systems, but were re-engineered with a focus on safety, repeatability, and modern control methods. This work led to the development of the AmpCoil, an independently engineered system emphasizing disciplined design, programmability, and non-invasive operation. Continued research and engineering ultimately produced the Sentient Element, a more adaptable and integrated PEMF platform now used in clinical and home settings.

The Sentient Element PEMF system

The Sentient Element is a high-intensity PEMF therapy system designed and manufactured in the United States. It delivers up to 2,500 watts of peak output across a 7–10,000 Hz frequency range, with peak intensities reaching 10,000 gauss using focused coil applicators. The system is FDA-cleared as a wellness device and supports both targeted treatment with single or dual coil applicators and full-body sessions when paired with the Sentient Light PEMF mat.

Sentient Element technology was evaluated in a 12-week hospital-led clinical study at Apollo Hospitals examining its effects on early-stage knee osteoarthritis. Participants used the system in 1-hour sessions, 5 days per week, over 12 weeks. The published results documented measurable improvements in pain, mobility, and inflammation markers. The study has been indexed on ResearchGate and accepted for Scopus listing, and Medical News Today has recognized the Sentient Element for its frequency range performance.
